It's all about Style!

It's all about Style

Hey all! We talked a lot this week about style, and how defining a basic style guide is an essential part of a great design. Part of your homework this week will be to pull together a basic style guide. Working from a basic template (link below), you'll define the colors and typography to be used in your portfolio. Not sure how to begin? Here are a couple links to get you started! And don't worry, you don't have to feel like this is locked in stone. We can make changes over the next couple weeks.

Heres a great basic style guide article

99 Designs has a great article about Brand Styleguides. Have a look, but as always, use your best judgment. You'll be using all your pinned designs to help you get closer to the style you want to achieve in your final site.

  2. Although I have missed 2 weeks worth of class I have been following online ... I seem to be having a hard time actually defining what my style is. I can imagine it in my mind but actually putting it on a tangible form is difficult for me at this point. I have Pinned and Reviewed other Websites like Peter Coe's and have gone through Wonderful Machine to perform some kind of competitive analysis but I seem to find a very generic look or feel to a lot of the sites. This leads me to my next question... How do I make sure that I stand out from the rest? Is this done through my images or is this done through my style, typography, layout, etc.

  4. Thanks for posting articles. They were great references. I am still working on creating a strong aesthetic and inspiration for my website. I really want my site to be clean and simple, but I still want to make sure I have some sort "wow" factor included. I am looking forward to getting started this week and pick out my layout. This is going be a great learning experience for me.
