  1. I typically enjoy doing competitive analysis as a way to figure out "what not to do". I like how the article touched on that it not only is beneficial to see what the competitors are doing, but also a great way just to research your own design abilities, interests, dislikes, etc. Great read, thanks!

  2. As soon as I began reading the article, I asked myself this question.
What is the difference between a Competitive Analysis and a Feature Comparison Matrix? Through extensive googling, this is what I found.A Competitive Analysis is a list of competitors including their strengths, weaknesses, product summaries, market outlook and strategies used by each competitor to achieve their objectives.
A Feature Comparison Matrix is a tool to compare the features and functionality of competitive products or services in a side by side table. They are pretty much the same, but I think the Feature Comparison Matrix focuses more on the following atributes as opposed to the marketing objectives of the Competitive Analysis:
    • Efficient Navigation
    • Organizational Clarity
    • Clear Labeling
    • Consistent Design
    • Matching User Expectations
    • Effective Visual Design
    • Supporting Readability & Scanability
    • Facilitating User Tasks
    • Providing Help
Either way, the similarities between a Competitive Analysis and a Feature Comparison Matrix allows for discussion in areas of improvements, emulations and overall product outlook.
